Fluoride
Fluoride is a natural mineral proven to help strengthen our tooth enamel, reduce oral decay and help to eliminate tooth sensitivity. It is applied based on your individualized needs.
Some factors that might make you a good candidate for fluoride treatments are;
- History of tooth decay. The presence of existing cavities and fillings indicates a history of tooth decay. This means you are more likely to develop more tooth decay.
—– - Dry mouth. There are many factors that cause dry mouth. Medication, radiation therapy to the head or neck area, certain medical conditions, and genes. If you suffer from dry mouth, plaque and food stick to your teeth easier and make it harder for you to remove it. A dry mouth also increases your chances of developing tooth decay because the buffering capability of saliva is not present to counterbalance the acidic environment created by certain foods.
—– - Sensitive Teeth. Fluoride helps reduce or eliminate tooth sensitivity by blocking the path to the nerve. See the “Sensitive Teeth Desensitizing” section of our website for more information on teeth sensitivity.
—– - Diet. Certain types of food we eat increases our chances of tooth decay. The sugars in our food feed the cavity causing bacteria in our mouth. Added sugars in refined foods such as cakes, biscuits, sweets, and soft drinks, help plaque to accumulate and develop on your teeth. Plaque causes both tooth decay and gum disease. Also certain foods we eat cause acid erosion of our enamel. Acid erosion is the erosion of the enamel on our teeth. Once enough of the enamel has eroded away, we get more weaker and sensitive teeth. We can help you to learn the affects of certain diet habits to further promote your oral dental health. See our “Diet and Nutritional Counselling” section of our website.
