Oral Hygiene Instruction
Oral hygiene education is the most important part of your visit. Keeping your teeth healthy between cleanings depends on what you do at home. Using dental hygiene tools and techniques properly is essential to prevent dental decay and gum disease.
This will result in;
- A reduction of bad breath
- Fewer cavities
- Healthier gum tissue that does not bleed.
Studies have linked poor oral health with cardiovascular disease, low birth weight babies, lung infections and even cancer. People whose immune systems are compromised, for example those who are taking immunosuppressant drugs, are especially susceptible to systemic effects of poor oral health and must have clean mouths in order to avoid systemic complications such as lung infections.
The first session is an important step in completing a thorough oral hygiene instruction session. We will demonstrate and modify oral hygiene techniques according to your individual needs. We will also discuss factors and habits that affect the health of your mouth, and provide any necessary referrals to help you maintain optimum oral health.
